Amazon Introduces Kindle Cloud, a Web-Based E-Reader

On Wednesday, Amazon announced the launch of the Kindle Cloud Reader, a new web app that allows users to read and purchase e-books within a web browser.

The Cloud Reader, which was designed with Apple’s iPad in mind, is nearly identical to the Kindle iPad app, offering offline reading and the ability to adjust font size and highlight text. Readers can also purchase books straight from Amazon within the browser and instantly read them online. No longer are users forced to purchase books from the Apple-hosted Kindle app, which is the whole point of Kindle Cloud.

Time Warner to Push More Tablet Magazines by Year’s End

Although various magazine publishers haven’t unanimously decided whether tablets are a good or bad thing for their industry, Time Warner says that by the end of the year, all 21 of its titles will be available on multiple tablet platforms, including Apple, Google, and more.

Time Inc. currently has tablet versions available for 4 of its magazines – four of its highest-profile magazines: Time, Sports Illustrated, People, and Fortune. 17 more titles will be available by the end of the year, including titles such as InStyle, Entertainment Weekly, and Real Simple.

Arizona Company Sues Apple Over Use of iCloud Name

iCloud Communications, an Arizona-based computer communications company, is suing Apple over its use of the iCloud name, claiming trademark infringement. 

Based in Phoenix, iCloud Communications claims that Apple’s use of iCloud will confuse consumers and cause the public to associated iCloud with Apple rather than iCloud Communications, a mistake that could cost the Arizona company business.

Apple Recalls Verizon iPad2

Due to connectivity issues, Apple has issued a limited recall of Verizon iPad 2 units.

"Duplicate MEID codes were flashed onto an extremely small number of iPad units for the Verizon 3G network," an Apple spokeswoman told Reuters, which explains "MEID, which stands for mobile equipment identifier, is a unique number that is used to identify a mobile device when it connects to the network. Two devices cannot have the same MEIDcode."

Chinese teen sells kidney for ipad 2

A 17-year-old in China wanted an iPad 2 but couldn’t afford it. The logical thing to do in a scenario like this one would be to save up the money needed – but  a boy named Zheng decided instead to sell a kidney for the tech toy.

“I wanted to buy an iPad 2 but could not afford it. A broker contacted me on the Internet and said he could help me sell one kidney for 20,000 yuan.”

Apple to Announce iCloud at WWDC

Apple has confirmed the widely-spread rumor that it is developing a cloud service. They will announce it at the June 6 Worldwide Developers Conference.

While there aren’t many details surrounding what the cloud services will offer, it is known that Apple purchased a $4.5 million domain name back in April.

Apple One Step Closer To Cloud-Music

Apple took a step closer to creating their cloud-music service with the approval of major record labels.  Warner Bros. and EMI have already signed on with Apple and now it seems Sony Music is on board too. The only hold out is Universal Music Group, but sources say there is deal in the works.

Is Apple Planning a Major Product Launch for 10th Retail Anniversary?

Apple retail stores prepare for their 10th anniversaries

According to BGR.com, Apple’s retail stores seem to be planning something big for the 10th anniversary of their locations. The 10th anniversary of retail Apple stores is on Thursday, May 19, and it’s rumored that the following weekend, there may be some sort of promotional event. According to a source, here’s what is going down…

First, there’s an overnight shift planned for around 10-15 employees at each retail location – they will work late night Saturday to mid-Sunday.

iPhone Location Tracker Cannot Be Successfully Disabled

We previously told you about the iPhone and iPad location tracking that Apple has installed on the devices unbeknownst to consumers. Last week, when the applications were discovered there was a scramble to figure out how to shut down the tracker. Well, after some initial testing it appears that the tracking application continues to work even after it has been turned off.

If there is one thing that a lot of people probably miss when they use their iPads, it’s USB connectivity. Thankfully, Apple’s Camera Connection Kit for the iPad changes that – though it’s meant for connecting digital cameras, the USB connector allows for using other USB devices with your iPad, making it a much more useful product.
