Japanese Company Announces Terminator-like Translation Devices

How's this for mind-boggling?

A company in Japan (NEC) recently announced the creation of eyewear translators. The device essentially translates conversations between people speaking different languages (using voice recognition and translation software) and then projects the results directly onto a user's retina. NEC says the translations will look like subtitles to people sporting the snazzy gear. I like to think they will resemble the data stream from Terminator.

The first model isn't scheduled for release until 2011. Even then, a set of 30 will cost around 7.5 million yen (about $85,000). Never the less, I hope the product is successful as I long ago gave up trying to learn Spanish.
