Apple Expected to Announce the iPad 3 Next Week

This morning, Apple sent out invitations for an iPad-related event on March 7, all but confirming rumors that the iPad 3 is on its way.

The invite (above), says “We have something you really have to see. And touch” along with a photo of an iPad screen.

Chinese teen sells kidney for ipad 2

A 17-year-old in China wanted an iPad 2 but couldn’t afford it. The logical thing to do in a scenario like this one would be to save up the money needed – but  a boy named Zheng decided instead to sell a kidney for the tech toy.

“I wanted to buy an iPad 2 but could not afford it. A broker contacted me on the Internet and said he could help me sell one kidney for 20,000 yuan.”

i3D Turns iPhone, iPad2 Into 3-D Display

More news on the 3-D front. i3D, a free new app available for download, can turn your iPhone or iPad2 into a 3-D display, all without the use of those goofy glasses.

The app works by tracking a user’s head movements through the device’s camera and then calculating what the picture on the display should look like. The result is an illusion that makes viewers feel they are gazing at a 3-D image on their iOS device. Check out the demonstration video below.

Apple Camera Connection Kit Provides USB Access to iPad

If there is one thing that a lot of people probably miss when they use their iPads, it’s USB connectivity. Thankfully, Apple’s Camera Connection Kit for the iPad changes that – though it’s meant for connecting digital cameras, the USB connector allows for using other USB devices with your iPad, making it a much more useful product.

Pilots to Use iPads in Place of Paper?

For years, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has required pilots to carry bulky paper charts and manuals on each and every flight. However, that may soon change. For the first time, the FAA has granted approval for two charter companies to use tablet computers instead of the cumbersome paper documents, clearing the way for commercial pilots to join the thousands of private pilots who have replaced paper with iPads.

iPad 2 Sells “400,000 – 600,000” Units in First Weekend

Apple’s new iPad 2 – the second incarnation of its wildly popular tablet – became available to consumers on Friday, March 11. By today, Monday March 14, it is “all but sold out” at Apple stores and other retailers around the country.

Some Apple stores even sold out of the tablet within hours of it becoming available, according to the Wall Street Journal.
