The Nintendo 3DS may have set a first-day sales record, but demand for the portable gaming device just hasn’t kept up. In an effort to boost sales and lure in holiday shoppers, Nintendo announced today that it will slash the price of the 3DS by $80.

Robin Williams and Daughter Zelda Star in Nintendo Ad

The Legend of Zelda video game series has a permanent place in many people's hearts, but especially so for Robin Williams. He named his daughter after the princess herself and Zelda Rae Williams grew up to become a dedicated gamer as well.

The two star in this Nintendo 3DS commercial for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time which comes out this Friday. They are so adorable! Check it out!

Nintendo 3DS Sets Record First-Day Sales

It appears demand for the new Nintendo 3DS has met, and exceeded, expectations. Nintendo announced today that the 3D gaming device sold more units in the first day than any handheld system in the company’s history.

"Nintendo worked hard to get as much product as possible to retailers on day one to meet demand, and we will continue with these efforts moving forward," the statement said.

High Demand Expected for Nintendo 3DS

The much-hyped Nintendo 3DS launches in the U.S. on Sunday (March 27), but will there be a demand for the new gaming system? GameStop President Tony Bartel says yes.

"We are seeing very strong demand for the 3DS," Bartel is recorded as saying in an earnings call. "We've been working very closely with Nintendo to maintain our reservations, to keep them open, and Nintendo has been very good with providing us with additional supply of 3DS so that we can keep our reservations open."
