Sony Cuts the Price of PlayStation 3

Good things come to gamers who wait. First, Nintendo slashed the prices of Wii, and now Sony’s PlayStation 3 is $50 cheaper.

Gaming guys and gals can now pick up a PS3 160 GB model for $249 or a 320 GB model for $299. Though Sony didn’t give any reason for the cut, Time Techland believes the company wants to get a jump on sales before the holiday season. Sony last slashed prices in 2009.

Supreme Court Overturns Violent Video Game Ban

Today, the video game industry has reason to celebrate. In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court ruled that a violent video game ban in California is unconstitutional, arguing that games should enjoy the same First Amendment rights as books, plays, movies, and other expressive mediums. The ban would have made it illegal to sell or rent violent video games to minors. 

"No doubt a state possesses legitimate power to protect children from harm," said Justice Antonin Scalia. "But that does not include a free-floating power to restrict the ideas to which children may be exposed."

Five E3 Game Trailers to Check Out

While the Wii U and the PlayStation Vita have captured most E3 headlines, gamers also got their first look at five games hitting shelves in the next few months, including Halo 4, Star Trek, and Bioshock Infinite.

"Call of Duty: Black Ops" Makes $360 Million in 24 Hours

Video gamers everywhere stormed entertainment stores this week, allowing Call of Duty: Black Ops to rake in $360 million in its first day on sale, a dramatic declaration that video game releases are on par with movie, music and book releases.

Activision Blizzard Inc. sold 5.6 million units the day the game was released, according to the company. The game’s predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 sold 4.7 million copies in 24 hours, raking in $310 million on its first day. Within a week, that game made $550 million, so it will be interesting to see how this game pans in comparison.
