
Today, web browsers may see one of 22 domain suffixes, including .com, .org, .edu, and .gov. However, thanks to a new decision by The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), web addresses may now end in any word in any language. Hello .walmart, .mcdonalds, and .bankofamerica!
"ICANN has opened the internet's addressing system to the limitless possibilities of the human imagination," said Rod Beckstrom, president and chief executive officer for ICANN. "No one can predict where this historic decision will take us."

For the past two years, Decide has been tight-lipped about its business plans, yet managed to raise $8.5 million from Maveron, Madrona Venture Group, Google founding board member Ram Shriram, former Expedia CEO Erik Blachford, and other investors – all in the name of “building a revolutionary new shopping service that will bring unprecedented levels of transparency to electronics shopping.”
What does that mean? The goal of Decide is to offer a comparison shopping tool that will eradicate that feeling of buyer’s remorse – what if it goes on sale next week??

Time Warner’s Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group said today that it has agreed to acquire Flixster, the movie discovery service with over 25 million users worldwide that also includes the film review site Rotten Tomatoes. Financial terms were not reported.
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group will use the Flixster brand to launch a number of initiatives to grow digital content ownership. This will include a recently announced consumer application called “Digital Everywhere.”

Here’s something I did not know, every digital photo taken contains metadata that leaves clues like where, when and with what camera the image was taken. That’s a bit spooky and probably worries some people who fiercely guard their privacy.

Nominations for the 15th Annual Webby Awards were announced today and nominees include just about every pop culture phenomenon in recent months. The Bed Intruder song? It’s there (Best Viral Video). As is the Old Spice Response Campaign (Best Viral Marketing), Justin Bieber’s Funny or Die April Fool’s gag (Comedy: Individual Short or Episode), and Angry Birds. With nearly 70 categories, including Games, Viral Video, Music, Sports, and Social Media the Webby Awards is dedicated to honoring the best in web content.
The Biebs was nominated for “Justin Bieber Takes Over Funny or Die,” while Zach Galifianakis’ web series earned the actor multiple nominations. Other celebrities nominated include actors Jim Carrey, Will Ferrell, Chevy Chase and Meryl Streep and singers Katy Perry and Bob Dylan.

It seems like no blog or writer is safe under the new AOL/Huffington Post merger. In a surprising move last night, popular software blog Download Squad was shut down. In an end-of-the-day email, staff for Download Squad were told that the blog was closed and they were jobless – effective immediately.
This doesn’t sit well with me, and I’m sure many other people – last week in the Huffington Post/AOL merger scandal..er, news… the company sent an email to freelance writers informing them that their services were no longer needed, but if they wanted to, they could still write for free. This did not sit well with higher-up Arianna Huffington, and the person who sent that email, along with the freelancers, was fired.

The popular music streaming company Pandora said on Monday that it has been subpoenaed after claims that smartphone applications are illegally sharing user information with advertisers and other third-parties.
Pandora said they were not the specific target, though, and that other subpoenas are thought to have been issued.
