Apple Expected to Announce the iPad 3 Next Week

This morning, Apple sent out invitations for an iPad-related event on March 7, all but confirming rumors that the iPad 3 is on its way.

The invite (above), says “We have something you really have to see. And touch” along with a photo of an iPad screen.

Apple is holding the event at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the same place it announced the iPad and iPad 2.

As usual, the Cupertino-based company isn’t offering any clues about the upcoming event or the iPad 3, but many industry insiders predict the new device will have a sharper screen and faster broadband options. It’s also uncertain when the third-generation gadget will be up for grabs, though techies will likely be able to buy an iPad 3 in early March. The iPad 2 went on sale just a week and a half after its introduction to the world.

CNET reports that Apple has sold over 55 million iPads since the device’s debut, with 32 million of those iPads leaving shelves in 2011. 2012 is likely going to be another “year of the iPad” for the popular technology company.
