Today, Apple finally unveiled their much-hyped "latest creation" and it's an iPad! According to Steve Jobs, co-founder and chief executive officer of Apple Inc., the device can be used for "browsing the web, doing email, enjoying and sharing pics, watching videos, enjoying music, playing games, reading ebooks." He referred to the iPad as a "huge Mobile Safari."
The slick device is .5 inches thin, weighs 1.5 pounds, and has a 9.7 inch IPS display, as well as full capacitive multitouch. It's powered by Apple's own silicon, the 1GHz Apple A4 chip. iPad is available in 16GB, 32, 64, and boasts 10 hours of battery life.
The tablet device can run all iPhone apps out of the box, though developers can modify their apps for iPad's display. It will also run iWork, a "suite of apps that millions of customers love."
Users can choose from two data plans offered through AT&T: $14.99 a month for 250MB of data, and an unlimited plan for $29.99. There will be no contracts and users can cancel at any time.
The cost of the device itself? $499 for 16GB of iPad (base model). 32GB is $599, 64GB is $699. 3G models cost an extra $130. $629, $729, and $829 with 3G.
Apple will be shipping iPads in 60 days. 3G models will ship in 90 days.
