ICM Registry Bans Celebrity Names From .XXX Domains

Though .xxx domains are now legal, don’t expect to see JustinBieber.xxx or KimKardashian.xxx anytime soon. In an attempt to keep cyber squatters and porn webmasters from capitalizing on stars’ names without permission, ICM Registry has banned hundreds, if not thousands, of celebrity names from the new adults-only domain.

Though ICM has not published the list of names placed into permanent “reserved” status, nor announced how they decide who makes the list, The Register has learned that Justin Bieber, Piers Morgan, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, and Donald Trump are among the celebs protected.

Deceased celebrities are also on the list, meaning there won’t be any .xxx sites dedicated to Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, or Amy Winehouse Well-known politicians and political figures are also protected. Sorry ladies, OsamaBinLaden.xxx is off limits.

Of course, celebrities are free to register a .xxx site in their name, but as the domain is reserved for adult-only content, most stars will likely pass. Too bad, because a .xxx domain would be the perfect place to market “stolen” sex tapes.

ICM estimates there are approximately 15,000 names on the list, though it also includes places, religions, and things.
