Kinect Sets Guinness World Record for Fastest-Selling Electronics Device

Microsoft's Kinect for the Xbox 360 is officially the fastest-selling consumer electronics device EVER. Guinness World Records today confirmed that the popular hands-free gaming technology has set a world record, replacing the iPad as the fastest-selling device.

The controller-free gaming hardware sold through an average of 133,333 units per day, totalling 8 million units in the first 60 days (November 4, 2010 to January 3, 2011). Even Apple's iPhone and iPad failed to match those impressive sales figures. Microsoft now reports that it has sold 10 million units since the products launch in November, twice as many units as the company originally expected.

“The sales figures here speak for themselves. We can confirm that no other consumer electronics device sold faster within a 60-day time span, an incredible achievement considering the strength of the sector," said Gaz Deaves, Editor of Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer’s Edition.

The new record will be included in the next Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition, which recognises record breaking achievement in the world of videogames.

Microsoft's Kinect retails for $149.99. It's also available in two Xbox 360 bundles, which cost $299.99 or $399.99.
