2010 brought us the iPad, 2011 brought us the iPad 2, and now rumors are swirling about the release of an iPad 3. According to All Things D, the third-generation iPad will come out next month and will likely feature a much faster chip and an improved retina display, among other upgrades.
“Sources say the company has chosen the first week in March to debut the successor to the iPad 2, and will do so at one of its trademark special events,” writes John Paczkowski of All Things D. “The event will be held in San Francisco, presumably at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Apple’s preferred location for big announcements like these.”
ZDNet reports that Apple may also release a smaller tablet to compete with the phenomenally popular Kindle Fire. The mini iPad would presumably be 7” (or smaller) rather than the standard 10”.
Apple, naturally, has declined to comment on any of the rumors. The Cupertino-based company is famous for its desire to keep new product information a secret until the last minute. That is, when they’re not losing prototypes at the bar.
Do you plan to buy the iPad 3 when/if it comes out? What about the mini iPad? The iPad 2 began shipping on March 11 last year. Could the iPad 3 hit shelves around the same time this year?
